Palliative care is a holistic approach to care that focuses on treating pain and symptoms and improving quality of life in people with serious illnesses.
Palliative care is often confused with Hospice Care and though there are similarities in approaches, they are not the same thing.
Hospice as a clinical definition, is where the patient is not expected to live past 6 months. Hospice focuses on providing end of life care in comfort and with a mind towards preserving the dignity of the patient.
As such, there are no invasive procedures done which will preserve life at a sacrifice to the patients dignity and humanity.
With Palliative Care, usually the treatment is also non-invasive, but not necessarily because there is no longer an objective to extend life.
At Putnam Ridge, we provide Hospice Care and Palliative Care. Contact us for more information.
